I am David Moorhouse, and I run Moorcroft Training. I deliver first aid courses and teach skills for exploring the hills. I am based in Devon between Dartmoor and the sea, but I can often be found in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), Eryri (Snowdonia), or Scotland in the depths of winter.
My Approach
My approach is all about the learner and always with lots of hands-on. I believe that training works so much better when we having fun in the outdoors.
I aim to:
Outdoors
I am passionate about the outdoors. As a qualified summer mountain leader, I have worked as a Duke of Edinburgh expedition trainer and assessor across the UK. My experience has allowed me to work with lots of people to help improve their skills in the hills and mountains and to be more independent there.
I believe that everyone can benefit from being in nature. By growing and learning from new experiences, the outdoors can help individuals to develop skills. My view is that great training:
First Aid Training
Being outdoors allows me to practice my other passion: teaching and providing first aid in remote locations. For nearly a decade, I have delivered first aid training to different industries. These skills were fine-tuned whilst volunteering for Northants Search and Rescue, where I was a first responder and training manager.
About me...
When not working I can be found outdoors, rock climbing and on expeditions in the UK mountains – summer or winter. I like to play hard, then eat cake and drink tea.

Dave organised an intro to navigation skills for a group in the Mendips - a really great day out and I feel like I learned a lot.I have a much better idea how to orient myself using a map, compass and the natural cues around me. The route was well chosen - some interesting geological and historical features, which Dave was able to tell us about, as well as lovely views from Beacon Batch!
Katherine Thomasset - Mums that Run
